Answers to your questions

Stair Nosings For an impeccable finish!

The nosing is the part of the tread or landing tread that extends beyond the face of the riser. The nosing on a landing tread is generally slotted into the floor, allowing for a smoother transition from the floor to the stairs, and also makes it easier to properly install the stringer.

Stair Nosings manufacturing process

Nosings are made entirely of solid hardwood and jointed according to the length and species desired. In red oak and maple pieces 10 to 13 feet long, and in birch pieces 9 to 13 feet long, they have a single joint. For lengths from 14 to 16 feet, it’s possible to have up to two joints.

Once they have been jointed, they are sent to the moulder to be shaped into the desired style.

A wide range of wood species

Menuiserox’s stair nosings are manufactured in red oak, maple and yellow birch, all domestic hardwood species found in southwestern Quebec and the northeastern United States. By working within a radius of 600 square kilometres, we limit our carbon footprint.

Other species like white oak, poplar and ash may also be available upon request.

A variety of wood species

Menuiserox is a strong advocate for using domestic species to manufacture its staircase parts. These species can be sourced from local suppliers, which also allows Menuiserox to reduce the carbon footprint of its products.

What’s more, domestic species offer higher quality wood compared to wood from other species available on the North American market, thanks to their colour and their hardness. Hardwood species that grow in cold climates like Quebec offer highly sought‑after colours—during the winter, tree growth slows down, which has a direct impact on the colour of the wood.
